About My Courses:

Professor KennedyAt the beginning of each class, I distribute an agenda for class activities, discussion topics, and assignments. I model the kind of student-centered teaching that I advocate for preservice teachers. All too often, they are taught and evaluated by lectures and tests, methods that are the antithesis of the approaches they should use in secondary school and middle school classrooms.

Over the years I've come to believe that what the teacher does is immeasurably more important than what she says. Now I think much more about what I model and demonstrate in the classroom and much less about what I tell my students they ought to know. As a result, my classes have become less structured and less product-oriented, and I have become more a participant in the classes than a lecturer to them.
