The MANSA Conferences


To date, there have been seven international conferences on Mande studies:

1.

International Conference on Manding Studies: School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, 30 June-3 July 1972 (fourteen years before the founding of the Mande Studies Association).

Second International Conference on Mande Studies: Bamako, Mali, 15-19 March, 1993 (at the Islamic Cultural Center).

 

3.

Third International Conference on Mande Studies: Leiden, The Netherlands, 20-24 March, 1995 (at the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde).

 

4.

 Fourth International Conference on Mande Studies: Serrekunda, The Gambia, 13-17 June, 1998 (at the Senegambia Beach Hotel)

 

5.

Fifth International Conference on Mande Studies: Leiden, The Netherlands 17-21 June, 2002 (at the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde)

 

6.

Sixth International Conference on Mande Studies: Conakry and Kankan, Guinea, 20-26 June, 2005. (at the Novotel Conakry and the University of Kankan)

 

7.

 

The Seventh International Conference on Mande Studies was held in Lisbon, Portugal: 23-27 June, 2008.  For more details on the Lisbon Conference
