Total Value of Participation: 5% of final grade
Learning is not just between teacher and student, but part of the whole classroom experience. Much learning takes place during class discussion, where we share our thoughts, experiences, and questions. It can also help me to understand your level of learning. Due on the last day of classes, I would like for you to self-assess your participation in class this semester. This, along with my own notes, will be used to determine your participation grade.

General Rubric for Participation
To receive 5 points, student must be an outstanding participant in all class activities: Whole group, small group, and individual. A student in this category is generally considered a class leader both by their peers and their instructors. Student also must have an excellent attendance record.
To receive 4.5 points, student must be an active participant in all class activities: Large group, small group and individual. A student in this category attempts to make a meaningful contribution at least once per class. A student in this category must have a good attendance record.
To receive 4 points, a student must be a good participant in most class activities: Large group, small group, and individual. A student in this category tends to be very strong in at least ONE type of class activity, but works hard to participate in other types of groups activities. (For example, the student is an excellent leader in small group activities, but tends to be more quiet in large group discussions.) A student in this category must have a good attendance record.
To receive 3.5 points, a student must be a good participant in at least ONE type of class activity: Large group, small group, and individual. A student in this category must have a good attendance record.
If a student receives less than 3.5 points in participation, the student appears to struggle to participate fully in most class activities AND/OR has missed more than one class.
