Lesson Plan Draft Due on Blackboard: TBAApril 15, 2014

Implement Plan at Groton: Thursday, April 24, 2014

Final Project Due on Taskstream: May 14, 2014

Value: 20% of your total grade

The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with Task 4 in the edTPA. This assignment will also give you the chance to analyze student data, create a lesson plan to address student learning needs based on your analysis, implement that lesson, and evaluate the effectiveness of your teaching.

This assignment will build on a series of lessons taught in the fifth grade at Groton Elementary. These lessons were digitally taped and are available for you to view through Blackboard. The lessons were taken from the New York State Math Module 4for Grade 5 and include lessons 13-16. These lessons are also available on Blackboard.

The following steps are necessary for you to complete this assignment:

1. Review the lesson material for Grade 5, Math Module 4, Lesson 13-16 (available on Blackboard) and familiarize yourself with the content.

2. Watch the 4 videos of the lessons being taught at Groton (available on Blackboard) and make note of areas where students seem to struggle.

3. With your team, analyze the exit tickets from the students in class to which you will be assigned. What are the patterns of learning in this class? In general, do the students demonstrate a strong understanding of the material? What concepts seem easier for students to grasp? Which ones seem more challenging?

4. Once your team has analyzed the learning of the class, you will need to determine which students need the content retaught, and which need the content extended. Some of this will be done during class.

5. With your team, divide the fifth graders up into groups according to their needs and assign a group to each person on your team. Each of you will be working with 2-3 fifth graders.

6. Draft a lesson plan on multiplication of fractions to either re-teach or extend the learning of your group of students. The lesson should be based on the needs of your group of students. You are free to use any tools or materials you want for this lesson, including the NYS Modules.

7. As part of this lesson, you will need to create a SHORT written assessment of student learning so that you can evaluate what students learned from your lesson. You should also be prepared to ask questions and use observations to assess the learning of your student.

8. On Thursday, April 24,at 2:30 pm, you will teach your lessons to your group at Groton. Please arrive at Groton by 2 pm so that we can have everything in place to begin your lessons promptly at 2:30 pm. You will have approximately 30 minutes to teach your lesson.

9. After teaching your lesson, you will complete the following components of Task 4 and upload them to Taskstream by midnight on Wednesday, May 14:

- Part A. Context for Learning. You will complete a template for this section.

- Part B. Overview of Learning Segment. You will complete a template for this section.

- Part E. Student Work Samples. You will need to scan the original exit tickets of the students with whom you worked and upload them to Taskstream.
