Taskstream Portfolio: EDU 373 Component

DUE: May 13, 2011

Value: 15% of your total grade

Explanation

Throughout this semester, you will be building a multimedia portfolio through Taskstream to document your learning in Block I. During finals week, you will present this portfolio to some of your Block I instructors. For the EDU 373 portion of your portfolio, you should complete the following:

A. Choose pieces of evidence that show that through your work in this course, the following statements are true for you:

  1. I have developed a strong understanding of what mathematical topics and ideas need to be covered in the elementary school curriculum.
  2. I have developed the skills to construct interesting, hands-on, investigative mathematics activities which support the NYS and NCTM Standards, address important topics in the elementary school mathematics curriculum, and help children develop conceptual understandings of mathematics.
  3. I have developed a deep appreciation of the various ways children think mathematically as well as the skills to analyze and build upon children's developing mathematical understandings.

B. For each piece of evidence, write a reflection that explains WHAT the evidence is and WHY you believe that piece of evidence shows that each of the statements above is true for you.

Upload your reflections and your evidence to the portion of your Taskstream Portfolio labeled: ACEI Standard 2.3: Mathematics. Please convert reflections and evidence to PDF files.

Evaluation

The EDU 373 Portion of your Taskstream Multimedia Portfolio will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Quality of reflections- reflections clearly demonstrate your competence in relation to the course goal and explain how the evidence "proves" you met that goal. Refections are well-written and free of error.
  • Quality of evidence - Artifacts are presented for each of the broad course goals listed above. You may use an artifact more than once and you may use more than one artifact per course goal. The artifacts you choose for a given goal are appropriate for that goal. In general, artifacts are chosen from a variety of sources, including in-class assignments, reflections from readings, out-of-class assignments, photos, video, etc.

Portfolio Evaluation Rubric

To earn a grade in the "A" range: Your reflection clearly explains how the evidence supports a given course goal, makes a very strong connection between the evidence and the goal, is well-written with few or no grammatical/mechanical errors, and/or reflects a high-level of thought on your part. Your artifacts are excellent examples of your compentency related to the given course goal they support and are of high quality themselves.

To earn a grade in the "B" range: Your reflection generally explains how the evidence supports a given course goal, makes a good connection between the evidence and the goal, is generally well-written with some grammatical/mechanical errors, and/or reflects a some thought on your part. Your artifacts are appropriate for the course goal they support and are of good quality themselves.

To earn a grade in the "C" range: Your reflection somewhat explains how the evidence supports a given course goal, makes some connection between the evidence and the goal, is of average writing quality with some grammatical/mechanical errors, and/or reflects a minimal thought on your part. Your artifacts somewhat support the course goals, and/or are of mediocre quality themselves.

To earn a grade in the "D" range: Your reflection poorly explains how the evidence supports a given course goal, makes little connection between the evidence and the goal, is of poor writing quality with many grammatical/mechanical errors, and/or reflects a litttle thought on your part. Your artifacts minimally support the course goals, and/or are of poor quality themselves.

If you earn a failing grade: You were missing reflection and/or artifacts for one or more course goal or your work is of very low quality.
