Make sure you can log into the CAP Lab Computers - Check with the Help Desk if you are having problems

Get the correct course materials (see the syllabus). 

Free MS Office 2016: 

Full-time students can easily get a free version of MS Office 2016 installed on their computers,   This is a full version of Office for Windows or MAC.  

Office 365 ProPlus for Windows includes:

- Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, OneNote 2016, Access 2016m Publisher 2016, Outlook 2016, Lync 2016, InfoPath 2016

Office 365 ProPlus for Mac includes:

- Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Outlook 2016

To install this software, students will need to access their cortland.edu mail accounts through MyRedDragon.  Click on the Office 365 tab.

Click on the /Install Office' button.  You can also use the applications below without installing them.


SimNet 2016

This is the program that you will need for all of your graded assignments. Bring your access code for SimNet to your first lab. You will be shown how to set up your SimNet account to use the software.  The bookstore has the SimNet codes.

Using SimNet on your computer:

Each workstation running a SimNet  product must meet the following minimum system requirements:

PC Processor: Intel Pentium 4 or higher processor required; Intel Centrino or an equivalent multi-core processor recommended
Memory: 512 MB RAM required; 1 GB RAM recommended
Operating Systems: Windows XP SP3 (32- or 64-bit), Vista SP1 (32- or 64-bit), or Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit); Macintosh OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Web Browsers: Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (32-bit versions only); Firefox 3.6 for Windows; Safari 4.0 for Macintosh OS X

Resolution: Minimum recommended 1024x768
Color: 32-bit
Video Memory: 64 MB minimum; 128 MB recommended
Video Card: Modern DirectX compatible
Network Internet connection: 56K modem minimum; broadband connection (cable, DLS, T1, or ISDN) recommended. Persistent connection required.

Adobe Flash Player 10 recommended; versions 9.0.115.0 or higher have been tested and are supported; versions prior to 9.0.115.0 are not supported
Adobe Reader 8 minimum; 9 recommended

Setting Up Your Browser for SimNet

No matter the browser you choose to use, the following have to be true to fully use SimNet 2016

JavaScript is enabled.
Pop-up Blocking is disabled,
Ad blocking software is disabled

You will need the following software on your PC in order to use SimNet 2016:

The Adobe Flash Player is required in order to preview the simulations used in exams and training. You can find a link to this component on the right side of the Welcome page, under Software. Click on the link or go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and follow the installation prompts.

If you want to read the SimNet user manuals, you will need the Adobe Reader software on your machine. Go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/ to download Adobe Reader.

Monitor Resolution

In order to use the SimNet most effectively, monitors must be set to a display resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher. This setting will enable SAM simulations to fully display on a 17-inch or larger monitor. If a lower resolution is used, students will need to scroll to view the entire simulation.
