Driving off a persistent sacrcophagid
The Larva and Adult
The spiny elm caterpillar is the larva of the mourning cloak butterfly.  The social caterpillars are nomadic foragers on a number of host trees but prefer elm and willow. The social behavior of the caterpillar is largely unstudied.
