The Lackey Moth Caterpillar (Malacosoma neustrium)
Lasiocampidae

The trail marking and foraging behavior of M. neustrium have been studied.  The basic features of cooperative foraging are similiar to those reported for M. americanum.  Caterpillars recruit to food and have been shown to be responsive to 5b-cholestane-3,24-dione.
