Tracy Armstrong is a student studying biology at SUNY - College at Cortland. She was the recipient of Research Experiences for Undergraduates awards from the National Science Foundation in 1997 and 1998. Tracy has now taken several courses in mycology, including Introduction to Fungi, Field Mycology and Systematics of Polypores, Corticioids, and Heterobasidiomycetes. She has also made two trips to the Caribbean to collect Basidiomycetes, one trip to Puerto Rico and one to the Dominican Republic. This photograph of Tracy was taken at Valle del Bao after she had spent 6-8 hours on the back of a pack mule traveling through the rugged mountainous region of central Dominican Republic. Tracy is using morphological and molecular techniques to sort out taxonomic problems we have encountered with some of our Caribbean and Australasian collections.
